| | biography | personality | growing up, jaejoong had a fairly happy boyhood as the only child of loving and caring parents, who were also deeply in love with each other. he was especially close with his mother, who, in contrast with his father's quieter and more serious nature, was free-spirited, good-humored, fun-loving, and spontaneous. the two of them often tried new things, played little pranks, or went on small, impromptu adventures together. later, when jaejoong got older and did these things on his own or with his friends, his mother was never angry or disappointed with him, but usually indulgent or even amused.
in jaejoong's junior year of high school, however, his mother passed away, and her death devastated both jaejoong and his father. jaejoong's father shut down emotionally and became a zombie, and jaejoong's attempts to bring him back proved unsuccessful. eventually, he gave up, and distanced himself from his father, determined not to follow the other's example and to instead live his own life to the fullest. his mother's death instilled in him the belief that life is too short for regrets, and jaejoong planned to have none of his own when his time came. as a consequence, his behavior became somewhat more audacious, and he earned a reputation in high school for being a daredevil and a rebel. with that reputation came popularity and respect, all of which served to further reinforce and encourage his uninhibited and reckless behavior.
upon entering yonsei university, the kappa alpha order caught jaejoong's eye, as he saw their intense hazing to be a challenge, one he accepted and overcame successfully. jaejoong also joined the university's boxing team, although he isn't always diligent about attending practice sessions. while jaejoong comes from a reasonably wealthy family and is quite comfortable financially, he works part-time at the eagle's nest cafe, mostly for fun and because he enjoys cooking. | jaejoong can appear aloof and unapproachable, but is actually fairly laid-back and willing to talk to anyone who tries to strike up a conversation with him. he enjoys learning new and interesting things, and there is no subject off-limits to his curiosity. willing to try anything once, and always up for a good adventure, he's somewhat of a thrill-seeker, and can't stand being bored. known to play the occasional, usually harmless prank, he would be a likely suspect if one ever found one's car trapped in an infinite loop of shopping carts during a trip to the supermarket.
due to his rebellious streak, jaejoong enjoys flirting with danger, and generally does not like being bound by rules, responsibilities, or commitments. he is free-spirited and independent, and strong attempts to tie him down will usually backfire, and result in him heading off in the opposite direction. he is also, however, very competitive, and never backs down from a challenge or concedes defeat once he has accepted one.
jaejoong is fairly social, and feeds off the energy of those around him. he's deeply interested in learning about people, easily infected by the excitement of others, and loves talking to those who are passionate about a particular subject. accordingly, he also dislikes negative energy very much, and has no patience for drama or for people who are mean or rude just for the sake of it. while he is typically easygoing, and generally prefers to avoid conflicts or to resolve them amicably, he is not afraid to take a firm (or even fighting) stance when he feels his ideals being challenged or when his buttons are pushed, and has gotten into physical fights in the past.
when it comes to relationships, jaejoong is open-minded and supportive, if at times flighty. he has a large circle of friends from varying backgrounds, and is always agreeable to making more. because of his susceptibility to boredom, however, he finds it difficult to stay in a steady romantic relationship. | | miscellaneous | ooc | -- owns a car and likes to drive it fast. occasionally takes it on road trips, often with no set destination.
